Five minutes away, on South Parsons Avenue, a family has been running the same two shoppable acres of nursery ground since 1980. Kerby's Nursery has outlasted the big box garden centers that opened and closed around it, and every September it runs its own parallel calendar of seminars and events that lines up, almost to the week, with what the county extension office is teaching a few miles down the road.

That overlap is not a coincidence anyone advertises. But if you live in Seffner, it means the fall gardening season for a large part of Tampa Bay effectively starts in your zip code before it reaches anywhere else.

A week later, on September 26, the nursery holds its Fall Kickoff, opening its pumpkin patch with a photo wall, running a scarecrow scavenger hunt, and bringing in garden mums in the season's autumn colors.

None of this is marketed as a destination event for the whole region, and it doesn't need to be. It works because it is close, recurring, and run by people who have been doing it long enough to know what Tampa Bay's fall actually requires.
